A family, a shore, a half-century
In 1974, Bob Barstow looked out across Lake Travis and saw possibility. He saw a place where Austin families could breathe — where weekends could taste like something worth remembering. Fifty years later, that vision never left.
Bob didn't build a business. He built a backyard — one big enough for an entire city to share. For five decades the Barstow family showed up every morning before the first visitor arrived and every evening after the last car left. The park ran 24 hours a day, 365 days a year for 50 years without interruption — save for one great flood that made the grounds temporarily inaccessible. Even during Covid, the park stayed open, offering the public a place to breathe in the open air. When authorities once attempted a forced closure over mask requirements, Bob and his son took one hour to print out their legal rights. When the constable returned, no masks were required. That kind of devotion writes itself into the landscape.
